The Fantasy Genre Has a Rising Star!Being an ardent fan of fantasy, I am usually always on the lookout for new works that would take the genre forward. Upon hearing about “The Abandoned Fighter”, and the fact that it’s written by a teenager, I was immediately intrigued. I knew that despite her age, she has a good chance of doing justice to the genre as it’s around this age that mythological creatures, otherworldly locations, and mysterious phenomena grip us more than anything.
On getting the book, I was impressed with the production quality. The cover image, the quality of the pages, the illustrations, all looked and felt really good, so kudos to the publishers here. Then I turned the pages and started to read.
The aspect that gets you hooked instantly is how easily the writing flows. It’s easy to follow for readers of all ages and all levels of competence in English. The story draws you in and you find yourself entwined in the eventful lives of Natasha, Aaron, Brandon, Katherine, and their family and friends. The author draws inspiration from popular titles in this field and creates her own imaginary world hidden from the usual sights and sounds of California. This being the first installment of a series, the book dives deep into defining the main characters, their likes and dislikes, the trials and tribulations they’ve been through and the startling revelations that confront them. By the last quarter of the book, you as a reader are heavily invested in their lives and fervently hope they succeed in their missions. The narrative involves a number of twists and turns, new information that significantly impacts each character, and sets the stage for an epic tale involving friendship, romance, politics and war that we will see soon in the next part.
Overall, I am really happy with the maturity that the author has shown in her very first work. Her grasp on writing is great and her knowledge of fantasy and pop culture is really extensive. I am excited to see what the next installments of the series will bring us and about Trishna’s future as a fantasy novelist. A rising star for sure.

Interesting readWere Wonders by Trishna Saha is an enjoyable read. The book follows the story of protagonist Natasha Dinzler and other characters close to her. Although thematic resemblance to Harry Potter stories is evident, the writer has been able to create a unique premise. The world of werewolves, demons, faeries, and vampires is astounding and the writing kept me glued to the pages. The writer has narrated the story from the point of view of multiple characters, which keeps the pace flowing. The nuances of young adult romance is well sketched out. The eye towards details is also praiseworthy.
The production quality of the book is quite high with a great cover and nice character sketches.
