All over the world humanity has to achieve its freedom through many struggles and pursuits. The struggle for women’s identity in the arts was more difficult. It is not over yet. The book ‘Women’s World of Modern Art in India’ traces the history of that struggle. The main discussion of this book is the evolution of human artist’s art practice from the beginning of the 20th century to the 21st century. There are also two chapters on Europe and Bangladesh. Along with women’s art practice, the analysis of the social and political situation of that time is also one of the highlights of this book.
এই গ্রন্থে সারাভারত জুড়ে মানবী-শিল্পীদের বিংশ শতকের প্রথমার্ধ থেকে দ্বিতীয়ার্ধের নারীবাদের (feminism) জাগরণ এবং একবিংশ শতকে তার সঙ্গে পোস্টমডার্ন কনসেপচুয়ালিজম মিশে নারী-রূপায়ণের বহুমাত্রিকতা ধরা পড়েছে। রূপায়ণের এই বহুমাত্রিকতা ধরা পড়েছে দুভাবে- নারীর পণ্যায়নের প্রতিবাদ হিসেবে তার বাস্তবতাকে তুলে ধরে, এবং নারীর আদর্শায়িত সত্তাকে উন্মোচন করে। আধুনিক শিল্পকলার নারীবিশ্ব প্রসঙ্গকে মৃনাল ঘোষ পরিপূরক আঙ্গিকে চমৎকারভাবে বোঝাতে সক্ষম হয়েছেন। সুনয়নী দেবী থেকে মীরা মুখোপাধ্যায়, অমৃতা শের-গিল হয়ে নলিনী মালানী বা অরুণিমা চৌধুরীদের শুধুমাত্র কলাশিল্পকে হাতিয়ার করে ‘নারীত্ব’ থেকে মানুষে উত্তরণ অথবা নারীত্বের পূর্ণ বিকাশের আখ্যান এই গ্রন্থের বৈশিষ্ট্য।
