Dr. Soumita Mitra, is originally from Taki district of North 24 Parganas. She graduated in History from Victoria Institution College. She did her MA in Ancient Indian History and Culture from the University of Calcutta and her MPhil from the Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies, University of Calcutta. She holds a Doctoral degree from Rabindra Bharati University. Mitra served as a Guest Professor at Barasat (Sandha) College and a Project Associate at the Indian Statistical Institute, apart from a long tenure as a Guest Professor at the Department of Distance Education, University of Kalyani. She is presently working as Guest Professor in Department of Distance Education, Hindi University, Howrah and Rabindra Bharati University. Several of her research articles and edited books have been published in English and Bengali at the national and international levels. She is currently engaged in editing several research books.
