Travel stories and rich photographs of places where very few would ever venture

A tourist is someone who travels along a definite path.  A traveller is one who explores. Dr Supratik Chakraborty’s travel stories carry stupendous photographs clicked meticulously by the doctor himself as he explored different parts of the world. This photo book is a rich treasure trove as the nomadic medic Dr Chakraborty travels the length and breadth of different continents trying to dig out unknown stories from locals. Be it the harsh inhabitable terrain of Namib desert to the source of the Victoria Falls, a route taken by Dr Livingstone or even venturing to the remote heights of Spiti Valley to drop in at a monastery, the author has followed his heart.

This book presents rich photographs of places where very few would ever venture and also traces historical documents that speak about untold stories of these unseen locations. His writing not only shows the landscapes and historical monuments of a place, but it also captures the whole socio-economic perspective of that area.

About the Author

Supratik Chakraborty was born and raised in the small rural town of Burdwan, West Bengal, India. After his schooling, he moved to the great metropolis of Calcutta and spent ten wonderful years at Calcutta Medical College, studying medicine. While studying medicine and obtaining an MD in Paediatrics, he also found the maelstrom of politics and ideologies irresistible and ended up in the bad books of the authorities. He met his future wife Sujata, also a paediatrician, in college. Later, the couple moved to the UK and settled in Leicester, where they live with their two daughters. Supratik obtained a Doctor of Medicine degree from Leicester University for original research and currently practices as a consultant paediatrician. He has a keen interest in the application of digital technologies in medicine and leads his organization in this field.
Supratik finds his interests outside medicine help him to maintain a good work-life balance. An admitted sports fanatic who has a picture of Muhammad Ali in his office, Supratik tries to take time off his busy schedule to enjoy a few games of tennis whenever possible. Travelling and photography have been his passions from childhood, and Supratik has always shared his experiences on various platforms to motivate others to explore beyond the well-trodden path. His natural flair for mixing practicalities with humor endeared him to his readers, and many of them asked him to compile a collection of his travel experiences for a wider audience. This book is a result of that.
Supratik remains dedicated to his passion of travelling far and wide and enthralling others with his tales of exploration.
