Sakti Sadhan Mukhopadhyay

Sakti Sadhan Mukhopadhyay was born in 1951 in the village of Panchra, in his maternal uncle’s hometown. His ancestral village is Jutihati, Keotara, in Purba Bardhaman. He was educated at Jhapandanga Pareshnath Vidyamandir, Pachra Sagar Chandra Rakshit Smriti Vidyamandir, Burdwan Raj College, and the University of Burdwan.

He began his professional life as a compounder in a homeopathy dispensary. While working, he completed his M.A. in Bengali Literature and went on to teach at Jangipur College and Khidirpur College. After obtaining a UGC Teacher Fellowship, he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Calcutta through research.

In his village, he was the founder, planner, and organizer of the public library, Jhapandanga Sadharan Pathagar. After retiring from teaching, he served as the Secretary of the Bangiya Sahitya Parishad from 2012 to 2016.

Sakti Sadhan Mukhopadhyay is a writer and editor of more than thirty-five research-oriented books on Renaissance studies, literary criticism, and related subjects. His first book, Bengali Renaissance in the Light of Italian Renaissance (2000), was followed by works such as Henry Louis Vivian Derozio in the Light of Renaissance (2024) and The Derozio Tree (2025).

At present, he is also a member of the editorial board of the literary journal Ebong Jalghari.
