Agni Roy was born in 1970 in Kolkata. He has been working in Delhi for the last two and a half decades. He is a poet, journalist, prose writer and translator. He has published eight books of poetry. With the permission of the Nobel Foundation Committee, he translated the speeches of Nobel Prize winners in Literature, which were later published in book form. Besides, he has translated, a collection of short stories from Africa, a family biography of Soha Ali Khan. He has edited, a collection of short stories by Bhagirath Mishra, a story of the Liberation War by Selina Hossain. He has translated several of his poems published in the Sahitya Akademi journal Indian Literature. He has received the Bijan Bhattacharya Memorial Award.
